Cookie policy

OnTrace uses no advertising cookie, and counts visits without any cookie. Here is what is stored in your browser, and the only thing we ask your consent for.

This is a translation for convenience. The French version of this text is the one that applies, and prevails in case of any difference.

Managing your choices

Your choice is kept for six months, then you are asked again. You can change it, or withdraw your consent, at any time:

Refusing removes nothing but the photos of places coming from third-party sites. The map, the search and the account work the same way.

What is needed, without asking for consent

These only serve what you asked for. The law requires no consent for them, but we list them.

What we ask your consent for

Photos of places come from Wikimedia Commons and Mapillary. When your browser loads them, those sites receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, which we do not control. Without your consent, no photo loads: instead, a “Show” button lets you decide when you want to.

Base maps

To show the map, your browser requests image tiles from OpenTopoMap and IGN. They see your IP address, like any site that sends an image. No cookie is involved and it cannot be avoided if you want a map: so we do not ask your consent for it, but we tell you here and in the privacy policy.

Audience measurement

To know which pages are useful, we count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, on our behalf only. No cookie is set. A visit is recognized by a hash computed from your browser’s request, forgotten after 24 hours: it cannot follow you from one day to the next, nor on other sites, and your IP address is not kept. Nothing is linked to your account.

For each page viewed, the following is recorded: the time, the page address and its language (never the rest of the link, such as a shared trace or an invitation), the site you came from, the country, region and city inferred from the connection, the browser, the system and the device type. The admin board and the map embedded on an organization’s site are not counted.

The readers of each blog post are counted separately, on our own servers: a hash of your IP address, browser and language, mixed with a secret drawn at random every day, counts you once a day. Neither the address nor the browser is kept, and both the hash and the secret are erased the next day. Only the number of readers and views of each post remains.

This measurement, limited to the site’s statistics, does not need your consent, but you can object to it here. Your refusal is kept in your browser. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, your visits are never counted.

The details are in the privacy policy.
